The Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex, located at the southern edge of the Red River Delta in Ninh Binh province, comprises three protected areas: the Hoa Lu Ancient Capital, the Trang An - Tam Coc - Bich Dong Scenic Landscape, and the Hoa Lu Special-Use Forest. Recognised by UNESCO in 2014, it is the first mixed cultural and natural heritage site in Vietnam and Southeast Asia.
The northern province of Ninh Binh has been well-known for its breath-taking landscapes. The province is also home to three special national relics, namely Hoa Lu ancient capital; Trang An -Tam Coc - Bich Dong landscape complex and Non Nuoc Mountain.
The special national landscape site of Trang An - Tam Coc - Bich Dong in the northern province of Ninh Binh will be developed to become an international tourist destination, according to the Government's recently-issued decision.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on July 10 issued a decision on approving the task of formulating a planning project to preserve and restore the special national landscape site of Trang An - Tam Coc - Bich Dong in the northern province of Ninh Binh, with the aim of turning the complex into one of the most attractive tourism sites of Vietnam and the world.
The famous landscapes of Trang An, Tam Coc - Bich Dong, Natural Reserve of Van Long, among many other historical and cultural sites, has helped the northern province of Ninh Binh attract 5.3 million holiday-makers in the first half of the year, up 19.4% from the same period in 2016.
Trang An Landscape Complex covers an area of 6,172ha in districts of Hoa Lu, Gia Vien, Nho Quan, Tam Diep Town and Ninh Binh City, about 90km to the southeast of Ha Noi. The complex is surrounded by a buffer zone of 6,268ha, mostly comprising paddy rice fields and villages. As a mixed cultural and natural property, Trang An Landscape Complex contains three protected areas, including Hoa Lu Ancient Citadel Cultural - Historical Area; Trang An - Tam Coc - Bich Dong Scenic Area and Hoa Lu Special-Use Primary Forest.
